About Us

We are a Tennessee-based supplier and installer of masonry products. We distribute and install CMU, brick, thin brick, natural stone, manufactured stone, and full bed depth stone throughout Middle Tennessee and Northern Alabama. We are seeking a skilled Masonry Preconstruction Estimator to join our team and grow our commercial department.

Job Summary

The Masonry Preconstruction Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for masonry projects during the preconstruction phase. This role involves analyzing project plans, specifications, and other documentation to develop detailed cost estimates, ensuring alignment with project budgets and timelines. The estimator collaborates with project managers, architects, and General Contractors to deliver reliable estimates that support successful project execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Analysis : Review architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and other project documents to understand scope, materials, and labor requirements for masonry work.
  • Cost Estimation : Prepare detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor services, ensuring accuracy and competitiveness.
  • Quantity Takeoffs : Perform precise quantity takeoffs for masonry materials and other related components.
  • Bid Preparation : Develop and submit comprehensive bid proposals, ensuring compliance with client requirements and deadlines.
  • Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination : Obtain and evaluate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure cost-effective solutions.
  • Cost Analysis : Identify potential cost-saving opportunities and value engineering options without compromising quality or project standards.
  • Risk Assessment : Evaluate project risks, such as site conditions, labor availability, and material price fluctuations, and incorporate contingencies into estimates.
  • Collaboration : Work closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and clients to clarify scope, resolve discrepancies, and ensure alignment on project goals.
  • Documentation : Maintain accurate records of estimates, assumptions, and supporting documentation for future reference and project handoff.

 

Qualifications

  • Education : Relevant experience prized over education. Bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience : Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in construction estimating, with a focus on masonry or related trades.
  • Technical Skills : Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., PlanSwift, Bluebeam, or similar), Microsoft Excel, and construction management tools. Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modeling) is a plus.
  • Knowledge : Strong understanding of masonry materials, techniques, and construction methods, including brick, block, stone, and veneer systems.
  • Analytical Skills : Exceptional attention to detail and ability to analyze complex project documents to produce accurate estimates.
  • Communication : Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with internal teams, clients, and subcontractors.
  • Time Management : Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple estimates simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Certifications : Certifications such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or similar are a plus.
